Freddie 'Fingers' Lee

I'm saddened to read in this month's issue of Mojo that the British rock and roll pianist Freddie 'Fingers' Lee has died. The lead obituary in the magazine is obviously for Pete Seeger and I know that Seeger was incomparably more important, influential and talented. Freddie never came close to having a hit, wrote no great songs, didn't have much of a voice and played piano in a style that was essentially derivative of Jerry Lee Lewis (albeit at even greater speed). And he mucked about - more of a clown than a rebel.

But he meant something to me. I bought his records, including this single from (I think) 1978:

I never did buy anything by Pete Seeger.
